Book instead of scroll: swap the feed for the page

The phone is not the enemy. The scroll is. You pick up the device in the gaps of the day, queue, elevator, break, and scroll on reflex. You can change the destination of the reflex without dropping the device.

Where the gaps happen

For two days, note the moments you pick up the phone with no reason. They are almost always five or six repeating situations. Pick two of them to turn into reading.

Example: the bus ride and the coffee line. In those two, the phone opens the book instead of the feed. In the others, leave it as it is.

One page per gap

One page fits a short queue. Do not try to read a chapter in the elevator. The goal is small because the time is small. Added up, those pages make one book a month.

Take the feed out of the way

If the app icon is on the first screen, your thumb gets there before you think. Move the icon and put the book where it was. The reflex stays, only the target changes.

In the hours you fall into the feed most, let Lergate block it. It closes the app and opens the book where you stopped.

What to expect in week one

Week one feels strange. The book seems slow next to the feed. That passes once you get used to the different speed. Do not judge it by the first few days.

Do not cut the feed entirely

Going to zero usually fails. You want to swap the automatic habit for reading, not become abstinent. Ten minutes of feed after the chapter works better than a total ban. See read before you open Instagram.
